A job as a carer requires someone who truly cares about others and is not just doing a job to earn a living. This is a special job, and it needs special people to do it.
Live-in care is a solution that allows a client to stay at home in familiar, relaxed surroundings, supported by a full-time live-in carer who undertakes all of the duties detailed in an individually designed care plan.
Many carers enjoy this one-to-one personal home care service as it allows them to concentrate and build a closer relationship with one person. Live-in carers have the time to build lasting friendships, whilst still maintaining a high standard of professionalism & care. Whilst it is undoubtedly one of the most rewarding jobs you can do, it is also demanding, challenging and comes with a huge amount of personal responsibility.
There are no specific qualifications or training necessary to qualify you for job in care when you apply. Obviously the more relevant qualifications you have, the better equipped you will be to succeed from day one.
When a carer first starts with Live In Solutions, they will be given the opportunity to shadow a more experienced care worker for a period. A new live-in care worker will only ever look after a client alone when they are completely confident and comfortable to do so.
Previous care work experience is desirable, either in a formal setting or an informal environment such as having cared for a family member, but this is not essential. However, if you don’t have care experience you will need to demonstrate some customer service skills as a basis to build on for care job vacancies.
You will need excellent communication skills; both verbal and written. One of the most important parts of working a a carer is engaging with the customer; chatting, listening and maybe even helping them with their correspondence so your English language skills need to be first rate. Domestic assistance is an integral part of the job so housekeeping and cooking skills are necessary.
It takes a certain type of person to make a good carer and above all else you have to be compassionate, caring and patient. You need to have empathy, integrity and resilience. You will have to be diligent, adaptable and reliable with a positive outlook and a proactive attitude. Being chatty helps and being a good listener is a necessity when looking for live in care jobs in the UK.
At Live In Solutions we put a lot of effort into our matching process; we try to match on the basis of personality, location and experience. Experience is a big determining factor when matching a client and carer. Certain care packages and conditions will require more experience than others; we never put our carers into situations that they are not equipped to handle.
If you feel you tick these boxes and are independent, fit and healthy and keen to learn, then we look forward to hearing from you for one of our live in care job vacancies.
